Control of Vectors

Control of vectors: We can prevent exposure to vector-borne diseases by controlling the growth and breeding of animals like mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and rats. Providing clean surroundings will prevent them from breeding and carrying diseases. We should take steps to eliminate vectors like mosquitoes, houseflies and sandflies by spraying insecticides. It would be best to eliminate the sites at which they breed like stagnant water.

Vector control stratergies: 

  • Chemical control
  • Space spraying of chemicals
  • Making it difficult for larva to grow
  • Biological control by using parasites of vectors
  • Environmental control by changing conditions favourable for the growth of vector
  • Personal protection by appyling mosquitoes repellent, wearing full selves shirts, using nets etc.
